Steganography

Greek for 'hidden writing' The art and science of hiding information by embedding messages within other, seemingly harmless messages. Steganography works by replacing bits of useless or unused data in regular computer files such as graphics, sound, text, HTML, or even floppy disks with bits of different, invisible information. This hidden information can be plain text, cipher text, or even images.

How Revelation works

A user friendly tool, written in Java, that works by altering the least significant bits LSB's of 24-bit bitmap images. As most of the data of a bitmap is encoded in the most significant bits, a few changes in the LSB's has little or no visable effect.

Bonus

To see how easy it is to hide these images that have been altered in plain sight, check out the pic on the right. rss_stego.bmp is actually a image that is encoded with Revelation. Currently hidden inside this image is a zip file containing a 7.86KB text file. Not bad for a 10.7 KB bitmap image to begin with.
